In many cases, everything on your list can be done in a single “fitting” (the tailor analogy again), a single surgery. But for safety reasons, we may sometimes decide to “break up” the surgeries into two separate procedures. 
 
The most common combination of surgeries we start with is liposuction, buttock lift, and tummy tuck surgery. We sometimes will call this a total lower body lift, a flankplasty with a tummy tuck, a belt lipectomy, or some combination of those quite confusing names. The easiest way to conceptualize what we are doing is removing a belt of skin from around your entire lower body. In this way, we sculpt your lower body, custom-tailoring it to your unique wishes.

My biggest concern at the beginning is to ensure you feel comfortable and safe when you arrive for your consultation. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. It’s important that you are comfortable with the inherently uncomfortable process of looking closely at the areas that are causing self-consciousness.

There are different areas of your body you can target:

  • A lower body lift can eliminate sagging in your stomach, buttocks, and thighs.
  • A tummy tuck addresses the excess skin in your stomach for a tighter appearance.
  • Liposuction eradicates stubborn fat in your abdomen, waist, and thighs.

Gentle Techniques to Minimize Scarring

I take great pride in all of my work and utilize every possible technique to minimize scarring. Most body contouring techniques require large incisions, which is why I use a delicate suture approach. I place all sutures by hand in order to create the best long-term incision healing. All sutures are dissolving. And I am gentle with the tissue since it helps to shorten your recovery time.

The goal is to hide all incisions in places that would be hidden by undergarments whenever possible. We use silicone sheeting after surgery and use silicone gel when those bandages are removed to minimize the appearance of your scars. CO2 laser therapy is included in your aftercare to give your scars the best possible long-term appearance.

I perform all of my surgeries in my own facility with my experienced staff. You do not have to go to an offsite surgery center. Plus, all of our procedures are all-inclusive, from garments to bras to skincare to scar gel.

If you are considering getting a body contouring procedure, you should be in good physical health, be a non-smoker, and be at an ideal weight. Your BMI should be below 30. Anyone looking to improve her appearance and has realistic expectations is a great candidate for body contouring.

What are the risks with body contouring?

There are always some risks involved in any surgery, and I take safety very seriously. In fact, I am steadfast and uncompromising when it comes to your well-being before, during, and after your procedure. Some of these safety precautions include:

  • Using the most kind and skilled Anesthetist I have ever met!
  • Implementing SCDs (lower leg compression) to decrease blood clot risk
  • Prescribing Elequis or Aspirin (blood thinner) to decrease blood clots
  • Overnight stays in our recovery suite on-site!
  • Caring. A lot. All the time. 24/7. Nights and weekends.

The possible risks with a body contouring procedure depend on what specifically will be done. Realistically, the most common problems are small areas of healing. In patient who follow the recovery guidelines, bleeding and blood clots are super, super rare.

All of my surgeries are performed in my own surgery center, attached to the clinic. I am able to control every aspect of your safety, from anesthesia to recovery room care to your overnight stay.

Body Contouring Recovery

I’m involved—frequently. I will check on you no less than three times on your surgery day in the recovery room, keep close tabs on you during your overnight stay in our facility, and personally see you and help you get discharged the next morning before you leave. I’m also at many of your follow-up visits. I’m always dialed into what is going on with your care.
 
Included in the cost of your surgery are postop garments (plural!), recovery ointments, lotions, and scar gels. All of these are provided at no extra cost to improve your results. Proper recovery is just as important as the procedure itself. 

Recovery times vary from patient to patient and depend on what is involved in your procedure. Two weeks is a safe estimate for time off from work. Make sure to get plenty of rest before you return to work. You will need to limit your physical activities and allow the swelling to decrease, which can take several months. It’s perfectly normal to feel some tenderness and numbness at first, especially in the lower abdomen and over areas where liposuction was performed. It will subside over time. Your final results will be worth it and long-lasting.
