Subtly Sculpted Curves

I tend to be a bit more conservative with my approach to plastic surgery. For some tummy-breast combos, we might “stage” two surgeries several months apart instead of performing everything together. However, one procedure that works wonderfully with a tummy tuck is a BBL. A BBL stands for Brazilian butt lift, but don’t let that intimidate you. As you’ll soon realize, not all BBLs are the same. We might transfer fat to the buttock in a small amount, and we might transfer fat only to your hip dips. This can yield a beautifully subtle curve that isn’t “giving Kardashian” to use a pop-culture phrase.

Artful Abdominoplasty With Fat Transfer in Orlando

During a tummy tuck, I am most certainly performing liposuction (along with skin removal and muscle repair). But why waste that fat when we can use it to amplify your curves? To fill out the buttock and hip dips and create the most beautiful waistline and laterals possible, I can perform a BBL or a hip dip correction using your body’s own fat with your abdominoplasty.

BBL Versus Hip Dip Correction

Many women, especially moms, are looking for a more modest result while still getting nice, smooth curves from their tummy tuck procedure. In many cases, the buttock projection and size are just fine the way they are, but there are hip dips that disrupt the S-curve shape of the waist and hips. For these ladies—and, to be honest, most ladies in my practice—we are performing a hip dip correction and not a full BBL.

This is a bit of a subtle distinction because both procedures involve the transfer of your own fat, but the key differences are really threefold.

How Is a BBL Different From a Hip Dip Correction?

  • A BBL adds more fat than a hip dip correction, leading to a bigger overall buttock with a BBL.
  • A BBL adds projection to the buttock as well as lateral hip projection, while a hip dip correction just adds to the “laterals.”
  • A BBL can be thought of as correcting size and shape, while a hip dip correction is about shape only.

To be clear, both procedures are possible with a tummy tuck. And again, both procedures involve liposuction to harvest and transfer your own fat. Yes, you may be sitting on your BBL results during healing, but this will decrease your ultimate projection minimally, especially when a BBL pillow is used under your buttocks. However, if maximum projection and volume are really your main goal for your buttock aesthetics, you might want to consider a Lipo360 & BBL procedure first before your tummy tuck.

The good news is that if we perform a hip dip correction, you will not be sitting on the grafted fat. The lateral part of your buttock will not have any pressure as you sit comfortably after your tummy tuck procedure with hip dip correction, so you don’t need to worry about the impact of sitting on your results.

The S-Curve or Ogee Curve

The S-curve is everywhere we find beauty: the lines of a car, the waves of the ocean, the sweep of beautifully styled hair, and the curves of a woman’s body. The best way to amplify these curves during your abdominoplasty is with the addition of fat transfer to the buttock. If you’re looking for shape and size, we can transfer more fat and perform a BBL. If you’re looking for shape only—particularly on the laterals (hips)—a hip dip correction is the perfect way to put that love handle fat to good use. I can make a beautiful and subtle S-shape, also known as an Ogee curve, to help give you the cleanest lines in your dresses and allow you to find your most feminine shape in clothing and when you look in the mirror.

The Safest Surgeon

My number two goal is beauty, and my number one goal is safety. BBL surgery is dangerous when surgeons are careless with the placement of the fat. When fat is injected where it belongs, namely into the fat layer of the body, there is no added risk of performing a BBL. When doctors inject fat into the muscle layer—either accidentally or on purpose—the BBL can be a fatal event.

When I perform a hip dip correction or BBL during your abdominoplasty, I transfer the fat into your fat layer under strict ultrasound guidance. That means I watch the fat go into your fat layer the entire time with an ultrasound probe. This approach is the gold standard for safety when transferring fat into the buttock, and I have had zero moments of any risk during fat injection during my career. While on the subject of safety, I have never had any type of patient safety event in the operating room during my career in plastic surgery.
